OMAHA FIREFIGHTER’S BENEFIT ASSOCIATION
The Omaha Firefighter’s Benefit Association (OFBA) is a not for profit corporation. It is for the purpose of promoting a spirit of fraternity and mutual helpfulness among members of the Omaha Fire Department, by providing death and disability benefits to members.
The affairs of the Benefit Association are conducted by five elected directors. Each director serves a five-year term. The directors are elected by a vote of the Benefit Association members. One director is elected each year.
Current Benefits of the Omaha Firefighter’s Benefit Association
- Active Member Death Benefit $45,000
- Retired Member Death Benefit $8,000
- Retirement death benefits prorated for members years of service:
- One to five years - No benefit

- Six to ten years - 25%
- Eleven to fifteen years - 50%
- Sixteen to twenty years - 75%
- Twenty years & over - 100%
- Disability benefit paid in accordance with Article 15, Section (d) of the Association Constitution:
- Probationary - $700.00 per month
- One year of service - $1,000.00 per month
- Two years of service - $1,300.00 per month
- Three years of service - $1,600.00 per month
- Four years of service - $1,900.00 per month
- Five years of service - $2,200.00 per month
- Advanced Terminal Illness Benefit
- A member shall be paid a benefit prior to their death if they are terminally ill and they qualify under Article 15, section (d) of the Association Constitution.
- Death Benefit for Spouse
- An active member shall be entitled to at $10,000 benefit payment from the Association upon the death of his (her) legal spouse.
- Death Benefit for Infant
- An active member shall be entitled to a $2,000 benefit payment from the Association if he (she) suffers the loss of an infant during the period of time beginning the 26th week of pregnancy and ending 14 weeks after birth. The City family life insurance policy does not include this coverage in their policy.
- Medical Equipment
- The Association’s crutches, walkers, and wheel chairs are available for members to borrow when needed. This equipment is stored at the Union Hall and can be checked out.
The current cost to be a member of the OFBA is $3.46 per pay period.
OFBA is sponsoring a Dental Insurance Program for retirees at a reduced cost.
